Recently we were interviewed by the Washington Post as they wanted to find out what Satoshi Island was really about! In their subsequent article they talked about the supposed plan of Sam Bankman-Fried’s (FTX) brother to buy a pacific island nation to use as a apocalypse bunker. They wondered if Satoshi Island had similar dooms-day predictions. One of their questions: Will there be any bunkers on Satoshi island? Do you envision it as a refuge for crypto investors in a possible apocalypse? Visiting Satoshi Island Last month we had our first community members make their way to the island, this was a monumental step for the project and they have paved the way for all Satoshi Islanders wishing to visit in the future! For all those who haven't made the trip yet, @IAmAussie made videos of his journey and experience on the island. Satoshi Island Has Welcomed It's First Community Members To The Island! A huge thank you to @IAmAussie and @CryptoJono "Future Prez of SI" 😂 for making their way to Satoshi Island, becoming the first official Satoshi Island Citizens to see the island for themselves! Simon - @IAmAussie Came all the way from Mexico, Via LA and Fiji. He said the flight was easy and cost him under 2K USD with only 4 days notice! We wish everyone in the crypto community a happy new year and look forward to seeing many of you on the island in 2023 For everyone who applied to visit this NYE but was unable to finalize arrangements in time we thank you for making the effort but understand the late notice, inflated flight prices and limited availability made it hard to arrange in time. We want to make a special shout out to our discord members 33ethereum#1122, tironi.eth#2694 and their families from Australia and the USA who almost finalized their bookings but ended up not being able to do so, due to work commitments and outdated passports. Each group had either 5 or 8 people, made up of couples and their children. Thanks for all your efforts to help try make it happen! However! As flights were so limited and the prices were as high as 5X the usual rate we've decided to extend the offer into January and are talking with applicants about suitable dates 🥳 Didn't apply due to the late notice? There is still a chance to come in January so let us know if you want to apply! Applications Our goal was to fill capacity with groups of 4 for each villa and although the majority of applications was made up of single travelers we had a very encouraging variation of applications. Videos Of Applications Yesterday we asked applicants to send in videos of why they wanted to come, even if they already knew they couldn't make it. So we will share some videos when we get them! The youngest visitor that would have traveled with their parent applicant was just 2 years old! Range: 19 - 49 Majority: 28-35 Summary: We had a diverse group of people apply from different backgrounds and countries, most worked in the tech industry but only about half worked in the crypto industry specifically. The most common applicants were single males who work in the crypto industry, followed by female crypto enthusiasts and professionals with spouses who were less involved in crypto. Today was a big day! The manual labor landscaping on the West Coast has come to an end and we're moving in the heavy machinery to start removing the cuttings and smoothing out the land in preparation for marking out the blocks! Next week the team will be moving onto the South Coast and the road up to the Cliffs and Bitcoin park. We've learned a lot from working on the West Coast and have put in place plans on how to best manage our time and man power! We started with just a few staff members on the landscaping team and over the weeks we went village to village hiring more and more until we reached a total of 42!
